If you’re switching your dog to an all natural raw pet food diet, you are providing them with the best chance to live a long and healthy life. A raw diet is meant to support your pet’s fundamental biological needs. While over the past thousands of years we have domesticated dogs and cats and welcomed them into our family, their natural diet never changed and it is our responsibility as pet owners to eliminate unhealthy, synthetic and artificial ingredients from our dogs’ diet.
As owners, we are responsible for what we feed our dogs and ultimately when we feed them. Switching to a raw food diet carries with it easy changes without having to switch your dog’s feeding times.
RECOMMENDED FEEDING
For a raw diet for puppies, you will likely want to divide their daily intake into 2-4 smaller meals each day. As they are learning and especially for house training purposes you may want to keep your feeding times and routine as regular as possible. This helps you and your puppy learn household routines and expectations surrounding food and elimination.
As your pet matures into an adolescent you can decrease meals to 1-2 times per day.
We recommend that adult pets are fed once a day. This allows for a more full digestion process which supports healthy metabolism. Meal times for adults can vary. Just like ourselves, as we grow up we become less dependent on eating at scheduled times. For our pets, irregular meal times can prevent unwanted behaviours while encouraging pets to eat as food is offered.
OWNER KNOWS BEST
Every dog has their own habits, behaviours and health that can affect how often and the amount they eat. A high energy working dog may benefit from 1-2 meals a day plus raw meaty bones. Or you may find with giant breeds that you feel more comfortable feeding smaller more frequent meals.
No one knows your dog better than you, so you can gauge the proper routine that suits you and your companion.
Providing your dog with a raw food diet doesn’t mean you have to make difficult changes, it just means you’re making the right simple changes to give your dog the best chance at a healthy life.
